My first week in Indonesia

My story began on a beautiful day when my friends and I boarded a plane departing from Vietnam, heading toward Indonesia. After more than five hours of flight, we finally set foot on this vast archipelago. The journey was long, but full of excitement, as it was my first time visiting this beautiful country.

Upon arriving in Jakarta, we had to take another flight to reach the city of Semarang. We were warmly welcomed and immediately taken to a local restaurant to try our first meal in Indonesia: Nasi Padang. This is a traditional dish from the Minangkabau people, consisting of white rice served with various side dishes such as meat, fish, vegetables, and flavorful spices. Enjoying this rich and flavorful dish in the cozy atmosphere of the restaurant was a delightful experience. I can still remember the sweet, spicy taste of the rendang, along with the savory flavor of fresh seafood. Each dish had its own unique taste, making me eager to explore more Indonesian cuisine during this journey.

After the meal, we were taken to PGRI Semarang University (UPGRIS) to participate in the university's internship program. It was a great opportunity for me to experience the academic and working environment in Indonesia. At UPGRIS, we were introduced to the university’s academic programs and internship opportunities. The professors and students here were very friendly, always willing to share their knowledge and experiences about their fields of study and life in Indonesia.

One of the highlights of our program was visiting the internship facility at SMP YSKI Kristen, a middle school in Indonesia. Here, we not only learned about teaching methods but also participated in various activities with the students and teachers. The students at the school were very enthusiastic and eager to engage in learning activities, which left a strong impression on me about the education system in Indonesia.
