MY EXPERIENCE

After taking part in the Sea-teacher Batch 10 program in Indonesia, I have acquired a wealth of invaluable experiences and insightful lessons that I will carry with me throughout my career and life. This program not only enhanced my teaching abilities but also broadened my perspective on Indonesian culture and educational practices, while offering me opportunities for personal and professional growth. I am truly grateful for the chance to be part of this enriching journey.

To begin with, I was fortunate to immerse myself in numerous cultural activities, ranging from exploring historical landmarks to savoring the country’s unique culinary delights. These experiences allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of Indonesia's rich cultural history and diverse traditions. Additionally, I had the chance to experience the vibrant customs and lifestyles of the people, which helped me appreciate the uniqueness of their society. These cultural encounters also provided a platform for me to connect with both local people and fellow international participants, establishing friendships that transcend borders. The bonds we formed and the experiences we shared will remain treasured memories.

Furthermore, the program provided an excellent opportunity to enhance my English proficiency. Initially, I felt a bit hesitant and self-conscious about speaking in English, but as time went on, I gradually gained more confidence. I actively engaged in conversations with teachers, peers, and even students, practicing my language skills in real-life situations. Over time, I grew more comfortable speaking English, and the nervousness I initially felt faded. This experience taught me that making mistakes is part of the learning process, and it is essential to step out of one's comfort zone to improve language skills. Now, I feel much more at ease communicating in English, which will undoubtedly benefit me both professionally and personally in the future.

Another highlight of the Sea-teacher program was the opportunity to build friendships with fellow educators and students from around the world. The participants were not only talented but also incredibly warm and supportive. Their enthusiasm and willingness to collaborate made the experience even more enriching. From our arrival in Semarang to our departure back to Vietnam, they were there to offer encouragement and share valuable insights, making this journey unforgettable. The diverse perspectives and experiences of my new friends were inspiring and will continue to influence me as I move forward in my career.

One of the most striking aspects of the program was observing how Indonesian teachers interact with their students. I was impressed by their ability to create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that encourages active participation and open dialogue. Indonesian educators use interactive teaching strategies, such as group discussions, collaborative projects, and extracurricular activities, to keep students engaged and motivated. I noticed how students felt comfortable expressing their thoughts and opinions, which created a dynamic and positive atmosphere in the classroom. This approach made me realize the importance of fostering an environment where students are not afraid to share their ideas and engage in meaningful discussions. I learned that creating an interactive, student-centered learning space is key to inspiring active participation and building students' confidence.

Through this experience, I gained invaluable insights into the importance of employing diverse teaching methods to engage students. I discovered the benefits of techniques such as project-based learning and inquiry-based learning, which encourage students to explore concepts independently and critically. These methods not only enhance students' problem-solving skills but also promote their intellectual curiosity and self-reliance. I am excited to incorporate these approaches into my future teaching practices, as they will undoubtedly help me create a more stimulating and effective learning environment.

Moreover, I have come to understand the significance of building strong relationships with students. It is essential to recognize and respect their individual learning styles and challenges. This experience reinforced the idea that teaching should be flexible and adaptable, catering to the diverse needs of the students. It also emphasized the importance of patience and empathy in teaching, as students may face various personal and academic obstacles that can affect their performance. I now believe that fostering a supportive relationship with students is key to their academic success and overall well-being.

In conclusion, the Sea-teacher Batch 10 program in Indonesia has been a transformative experience that has had a profound impact on both my personal development and my teaching philosophy. It has deepened my understanding of cultural diversity, enriched my teaching methods, and shown me the value of fostering positive, student-centered learning environments. The skills, knowledge, and friendships I gained during this program will remain with me as I continue to pursue my teaching career. I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to participate in this program, and I look forward to applying the lessons I learned to create a more inclusive and dynamic classroom for my future students.
