History of the Indonesian Christian School Foundation
The year 1951 was a year when there were still not many
schools that had distinctive characteristics in their teaching, considering
that at that time the Republic of Indonesia was still in a period of consolidation.
This seemed to touch the hearts of three Christian figures in Semarang to be
able to establish a foundation that managed elementary schools and secondary
schools based on and characterized by Christian teachings.
Liem Hwaij Gie (Yahya Hadinoto), Yap Hwat Ling and Gan
Hok Gwan (Yahya S. Gani) formed a committee called the “Organizing Committee
for the Establishment of the Chinese Christian School Foundation” whose goal
was to realize the establishment of the Chinese Christian School Foundation.
After a long meeting and discussion, on November 15,
1951, a foundation was established with the name of Semarang Chinese Christian
School Foundation which was confirmed before notary Tan A Sioe with notarial
deed no. 53 dated November 15, 1951.
At that time the first management was formed for the
period 1951 – 1954, consisting of:

With the formation of the management structure, the
foundation began to take steps and move its hands to work. As an initial step,
the foundation established cooperation with the Vereniging School met de Bijbel
which at that time had managed Christian schools in Semarang and its
surroundings. At that time the management of the Verenigning School met den
Bijbel were Mr. KM Fernhout, YC vd Waals, Liem Wie Tjhoen and Ds. YM Vlijm.
The schools that were successfully established and
managed by the Chinese Christian School Foundation are:
Christian Elementary School 1 (formerly known as Jomblang
Christian Elementary School) is located at Jl. Mataram 719 Semarang
Christian Elementary School 2 (formerly known as Chinese
Christian People's School) is located at Jl. Dr. Cipto 109 Semarang
Junior High School 2 is located at Jl. Sidodadi Timur 23
Semarang.
During the management of the foundation from 1954 to
1965, an important event was recorded, namely on May 28, 1959, the name of the
foundation was changed from the Chinese Christian School Foundation to the
Indonesian Christian School Foundation with notary deed Tan A Sioe no. 90 dated
May 28, 1959.
With God's help, YSKI continues to grow until now it has

Value
of Indonesian Christian School Foundation
Education provided in schools is one of the important
means in the formation and development of a person's character. Realizing the
importance of the role of schools in a person's character, every educational
institution wants its institutional output to have a character in accordance
with the educational goals of the institution. The Indonesian Christian School
Foundation (YSKI) is no exception. Through its vision and mission, YSKI aims to
make its graduates have high faith, knowledge and morals. YSKI's vision and
mission have become provisions as well as norms used as references for
implementing education at YSKI. Likewise, character formation always refers to
the vision, especially at the moral level. YSKI believes that the highest
morality is if humans have Christian characteristics that show behavior in
accordance with the fruit of the Spirit, namely behavior that is based on noble
attitudes such as being full of love, always joyful, from within radiating
peace, being filled with patience, there is generosity, kindness, loyalty,
gentleness, and self-control. The noble attitudes contained in Galatians
5:22-23 are a strong foundation for the implementation of character education
in the YSKI environment.
Currently, the world of education is facing various challenges,
namely the shift in educational paradigms, preparation of human resource
competencies in the 21st century, educational/learning technology study
programs, development of the 2013 Curriculum, and implementation of the 2013
Curriculum.
Character education in YSKI is developed by instilling
values. The instillation of these values applies to every individual involved
in the educational process held in YSKI. According to Kluckhohn in Mulyana
(2013) values are conceptions (explicit or implied, which are differentiating
individuals or group characteristics) of what is desired, which influences the
choice of actions towards means, intermediate goals and final goals.
YSKI Value is a concept of strengthening character
education for students, educators and education personnel and people involved
in organizing education in the YSKI environment that characterizes YSKI
education as an effort to realize the vision as well as an instrument for
implementing the YSKI mission. YSKI Value is created using a scientific approach
that starts from observing behavior, both observing the behavior of YSKI
students from PG to SMA and the behavior of children of the same age outside
YSKI as a comparison. From the observation, it was found that the behavior of
YSKI students was controlled, reasonable, and met the requirements in terms of
appropriateness as children and students. However, there are attitudes that
need to be developed so that they become humans who are truly ready to face
real life in society, one of which is the need to have the ability to face
competition while maintaining their identity as children of God. From the
observation, the most suitable treatment for YSKI
character education was then sought. Various concepts and thoughts from the
team were used as initial information to formulate a new concept regarding
YSKI's unique character education until the SPECIAL concept emerged which
simplified the previous YSKI tagline , namely
Special School Makes Special People.
YSKI Value targets Christian spiritual aspects
(Spiritual), spirit/passion for achievement ( Passionate ),
enthusiasm in pursuing ideals ( Enthusiastic ), willing to
share with others ( Caring ), honest and strong character ( Integrity ),
adaptability ( Adaptive ), and leadership ( Leader ).
The target attitudes are then formulated in the form of words with the acronym
SPECIAL. Each aspect has four main indicators. From the four main indicators,
several sub-indicators are developed into operational sentences. The indicators
and sub-indicators in the form of operational sentences are arranged to
facilitate the implementation of character development through learning
activities both inside and outside the classroom. The implementation of
character building through YSKI Value is carried out with a habituation
approach in the school environment and at home. At school, habituation is
carried out in indirect learning, namely teachers carry out behavioral and
thought habits for each student during learning. This habituation can be in the
form of how to convey messages, how to respond to or provide responses to
messages received, how to maintain comfort and peace, how to grow internal
motivation and make experience as external motivation. Getting used to being a
person who is caring, honest, and able to adapt to any situation and
circumstances and has a leadership spirit is also part of the habituation that
will ultimately shape the character of students so that students become SPECIAL
children with personality.
