ACTIVITIES-W3
My third week in Indonesia was filled
with both excitement and new experiences. After spending the first few days
observing the teaching methods of various educators at SMP YSKI Kristen, I was
given an exciting opportunity by the school principal. I was assigned to teach
Physics to the 8th-grade class, with Mr. BD as my guide and mentor.
The first day of teaching was
nerve-wracking yet thrilling. Mr. BD had carefully planned my lesson and
provided me with a lot of helpful advice. He showed me how to make the lesson
interactive and engaging for the students, explaining complex physical concepts
in a way that they could easily understand. With his guidance, I felt more
confident and began to enjoy the teaching process. The students were
enthusiastic and eager to participate, asking insightful questions and
providing creative answers. Their energy and curiosity made teaching them a
truly rewarding experience. I realized how much I had learned from Mr. BD’s
approach and how valuable this hands-on teaching experience was in developing
my own skills.
As the week progressed, I continued to
work closely with Mr. BD, receiving constant feedback and learning how to
refine my teaching style. It was amazing to witness the improvement in both my
teaching and the students' understanding of the subject. By the end of the
week, I felt a deep sense of accomplishment and growth.
During the weekend, I had the
opportunity to explore some of Semarang’s most beautiful and historical sites.
I was taken to Gedong Songo, a series of ancient temples located on the slopes
of Mount Ungaran. The scenery was breathtaking, with the lush greenery and the
cool mountain air creating a peaceful atmosphere. As I explored the temples, I
learned about their history and the cultural significance they hold for the
people of Indonesia. The experience was both educational and relaxing, offering
a glimpse into Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage.
After visiting Gedong Songo, we headed
to Celosia, a colorful garden and amusement park that was truly a feast for the
eyes. The vibrant flowers and well-maintained landscapes created a stunning
backdrop for photos, and I couldn’t resist taking a few snapshots to capture
the beauty of the place. It was a fun and lively spot to unwind after a week of
teaching.
In the evening, we went to Waroeng Special
Sambal 'SS', a popular local restaurant, where we enjoyed a delicious dinner. I
tried Pecel Lele, a traditional Indonesian dish consisting of fried catfish
served with rice and a spicy sambal (chili paste). The dish was flavorful and
rich in spices, and it became one of my favorite Indonesian meals. Sharing the
meal with my friends made it even more enjoyable, and I loved experiencing the
local cuisine in such a lively setting.
This week was an unforgettable blend of
teaching, learning, and cultural exploration. I gained valuable teaching
experience, deepened my understanding of Indonesian culture, and created
memories that I will cherish forever. I returned home with new skills, a
greater appreciation for Indonesia, and a stronger connection to the people and
traditions of this beautiful country.
